1-(3-Hydroxy-5-methylpyridin-2-yl)ethanone is a natural product that has been shown to have anti-tuberculosis effects. This compound is an inhibitor of fatty acid synthase, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the synthesis of fatty acids. It also can inhibit plastid protein synthesis and growth by inhibiting the activity of ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (RuBisCO). Fatty acid synthase inhibition may be responsible for the anti-tuberculosis effects observed when this compound is administered to mice with TB.
