6-Bromo-6-deoxy-gamma-cyclodextrin is a cyclodextrin with a bromine atom in the 6 position. It has been synthesized by reacting 6-bromo-6-deoxyglucose with sodium hydroxide in the presence of dibutyltin oxide, followed by hydrolysis and purification. This compound can be used to modify saccharides and oligosaccharides through glycosylation, methylation, or fluorination. The structure of this molecule consists of an alpha glucose ring with five hydroxyl groups that are all on the same face of the ring. This modification allows it to be used in click chemistry reactions.
