Sialyl Lewis X ceramide is a hybrid molecule that has a backbone consisting of four sugar molecules and an amino acid sequence, with hydroxyl groups on one end and an acetyl glucosamine on the other end. The molecule has a carbohydrate skeleton consisting of galactose, glucose, mannose, and sialic acid. Sialyl Lewis X ceramide also interacts with selectins to mediate leukocyte-endothelial interactions in inflammation.
