Synonyms:
  • 1,1′-Biphenyl-2-ylcarbonyl chloride
  • 2-Phenylbenzoyl chloride

  • Biphenyl-2-carboxylic acid chloride
Description:

2-Biphenylcarbonyl chloride is a diazonium salt that belongs to the class of compounds called nitro compounds. It is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of cholesterol and has been shown to cause infertility and inflammation. 2-Biphenylcarbonyl chloride inhibits cholesterol synthesis by reacting with the hydroxyl group at position 17 in lanosterol, resulting in a sterol molecule that cannot be converted into cholesterol. It also has anti-cancer effects, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells.
