Copper bis(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionate) is a synthetic compound that yields copper metal at temperatures below 400°C. This compound is produced by the reaction of copper (II) salts with 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedione. Copper bis(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionate) has been shown to be an efficient catalyst for the production of heterocyclic amines and amines from halides. It can also be used as a magnetic material and has a diamagnetic susceptibility of less than 1% at 20°C. Copper bis(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionate) is insoluble in water and soluble in organic solvents such as chloroform or acetone.
