Description:

N,N'-Bis(p-toluenesulfonyl)hydrazine is a crystalline solid that is soluble in organic solvents and reacts with nucleophiles. It has been used as a reagent for the synthesis of benzyl chloride. N,N'-Bis(p-toluenesulfonyl)hydrazine can be prepared by the reaction of toluene sulfonic acid chloride with hydrazine. The yield of this reaction is about 80%. The major impurity in this product is bis(p-toluenesulfonyl)amine which can be removed by recrystallization.
