Product Information
- 3-Methyl-4-Nitroquinoline 1-Oxide
- Quinoline, 3-methyl-4-nitro-, 1-oxide
3-Methyl-4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide (4NQO) is a mutagenic and carcinogenic compound. It is a nitrosamine that has been used as an analogue of the mutagenic agent 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole (AT). The efficiency of 4NQO in inducing mutations was found to be higher than that of AT. 4NQO induces mutations by substituting guanine for adenine and cytosine for thymine in the DNA sequence. This results in a spectrum of different types of mutations, including transversions and point mutations. These mutations are related to carcinogenesis, which can lead to cancer. Cerevisiae yeast cells are affected by 4NQO toxicity at concentrations below 25 μg/ml.
