5,6-Dihydrocyclopenta[c]-1,2-dithiole-3(4H)-thione is a complex molecule that inhibits the transcriptional regulation of genes involved in the transport of fatty acids. It has been shown to reduce the size of heart cells and induce apoptosis. 5,6-Dihydrocyclopenta[c]-1,2-dithiole-3(4H)-thione also has optical properties that are different from those of other molecules. It is an inhibitor of caco-2 cells and may be used for cancer treatment. The drug has been shown to inhibit the growth of human tumour cells in vitro that have been activated by phorbol ester. 5,6-Dihydrocyclopenta[c]-1,2-dithiole-3(4H)-thione also binds with monoclonal antibodies against CD36 and CD14 on human monocytes.
