Tetraphenyl-1,4-phenylenediamine is a proton donor that has an electron withdrawing group. It is used in uncoupling reactions such as transducin and lipoxygenase. Tetraphenyl-1,4-phenylenediamine is used to study the effects of temperature on the structure of phospholipid bilayers. This compound can be used as a substrate for amines and diode experiments at concentrations of 2 to 4 mM. Tetraphenyl-1,4-phenylenediamine can also be used to produce yields of up to 82%.
