Methyl 1,2,5-trimethyl-1H-pyrrole-3-carboxylate is a benzenoid compound that can be synthesized from methyl acetoacetate and potassium hydroxide. The yield of the reaction is about 65%. Methyl 1,2,5-trimethyl-1H-pyrrole-3-carboxylate can be used in organic synthesis as an intermediate for other chemicals. This compound undergoes photolysis and has been observed to produce dimethylbenzene and rearrangements such as cyanohydrin formation. The tautomeric form of this compound is hydroxymethylfurfuraldehyde. This compound can also undergo hydrogenolysis with methanolic potassium hydroxide to produce two products: methyl furan carboxylate and methylamine hydrochloride.
