Methyl 2,5-diiodobenzoate is a ligand that binds to the SH2 domain and inhibits protein-tyrosine phosphatase. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of protein-tyrosine phosphatase in vitro, but it has not been tested in animals or humans. The synthesis of methyl 2,5-diiodobenzoate is efficient and can be achieved by a palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction. Due to its regioselective nature, methyl 2,5-diiodobenzoate can be modified with a variety of substituents on either side of the iodine atom.
