Resolve-Al„¢ La is a cyclopentenone that can be synthesized by the photochemical rearrangement of an alkyl boron etherate. This reaction is believed to proceed via a radical mechanism, with the formation of an intermediate boron trifluoride dimer and an alkyl chloride. Treatment of this intermediate with boron trifluoride or trifluoride etherate leads to the formation of the desired product. Resolve-Al„¢ La is a precursor to other organoboranes, including those used in peptide synthesis.
