It is used in the laboratory for the analysis of plasma levels of neurotransmitters and metabolites, such as norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin, and choline. D-glutamic acid-5-d5 is chemically stable and can be used to measure endogenous synthesis rates of these neurotransmitters.
