Product Information
3-Cyano-3-phenylpropanoic acid is a metabolite of nadph that can be used to measure the activation of escherichia coli. It is synthesized by the addition of an activated form of flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) to 3-phenylpropanoic acid. This reaction requires oxygen, and therefore, it cannot take place in cells that are anaerobic or in the absence of oxygen. The product has been isolated as yellow crystals with a melting point of 146°C. The compound's sequence has been determined and shown to be enantiopure, which means that it contains only one type of chiral center. 3-Cyano-3-phenylpropanoic acid is produced heterologously in E. coli and expressed from an engineered promoter system. The yield from this process is much higher than from chemical synthesis due to recycling steps that allow for the use of less expensive starting materials
