The fluorescence of 2,6-bis(p-tolyl)pyridine can be attributed to aryl aldehydes. It is an antibacterial agent that can be used for the treatment of bacterial infections. The single-crystal x-ray diffraction study showed that protonation has an important role in the mechanism of action. This compound has been shown to be active against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. 2,6-Bis(p-tolyl)pyridine is soluble in tetrahydrofuran but not water and is chemically stable under radiation damage.
