Thulium(III) bromide is a halogen compound that is used in the synthesis of synthetic glucocorticoids and androgens. It is also used to treat human adenocarcinoma, a cancer of the lung tissue, when it has spread to other parts of the body. Thulium(III) bromide emits light when heated or exposed to air. The emission color is determined by wavelength and can be red, green, or blue. When heated, thulium(III) bromide reacts with hydrochloric acid to produce thulium(III) chloride gas. Thulium compounds are chemically stable and not readily attacked by acids or bases.
