Description:
Holmium(III) nitrate pentahydrate (HoN03) is a water-soluble, inorganic chemical that can be used for diagnostic purposes. It is able to penetrate the cell membrane and bind to DNA, inhibiting the synthesis of genetic material. HoN03 has been shown to be effective in treating bone cancer and other cancers. This drug also has ferroelectric properties, which may be due to its ability to form a crystalline structure of alternating layers of holmium oxide and nitrogen dioxide. The reaction between HoN03 and nitrogen atoms produces an alkyl nitrate compound.
