Benzenemethanol, 4-chloro-±-2-propen-1-yl-, is a colorless liquid with a camphoraceous odor. It has been used as an intermediate in the synthesis of organic compounds and pharmaceuticals. This compound can be produced by reacting benzene with chloroacetaldehyde followed by hydrolysis. Benzenemethanol, 4-chloro-±-2-propen-1-yl-, is soluble in organic solvents and slightly soluble in water. It is highly flammable and should be handled with care.
