Description

Zinc acrylate is a monomer that reacts with sodium carbonate and trifluoroacetic acid to form polymers. It is biocompatible, non-toxic, and non-irritating to the skin. Zinc acrylate has antimicrobial properties and can be used in medical implants or coatings for medical devices, such as catheters or prostheses. It is also used in acrylics and coatings for paper, textiles, leather, and wood products. The process of creating zinc acrylate involves polymerization of methyl ethyl acrylate with zinc chloride in a reaction solution that contains water vapor. The zinc chloride salt of the acrylic group forms a polymer on contact with the water vapor. This polymerization process is optimized by controlling the concentration of reactants (sodium carbonate) and the use of monomers that contain nitrogen atoms.
