Product Information

Name:
1,3-Dibromoazulene
Synonyms:
  • Azulene, 1,3-Dibromo-
Description:

1,3-Dibromoazulene is a yellow-brown liquid that is soluble in benzene and ether. It has a constant boiling point of 130°C and is insoluble in water. 1,3-Dibromoazulene can be used to encapsulate drugs for sustained release and to enhance the effectiveness of other drugs. The fluorescence lifetime of 1,3-dibromoazulene is 3.6 nanoseconds, which makes it useful for studying thermodynamic and kinetic properties of drug molecules. Trifluoroacetic acid reacts with 1,3-dibromoazulene to form an organometallic compound that then reacts with an organic molecule such as an alcohol or amine to form a functional group. This reaction can be used in synthetic chemistry to make polyatomic molecules with protonated acceptor groups.
