Tetraphenylporphyrin vanadium oxide is a synthetic substance that can be used as a catalyst for the catalytic oxidation of toluene. It is prepared by reacting phenylmagnesium bromide with tetraphenylporphine in an acidified solution of benzoic acid. Tetraphenylporphyrin vanadium oxide is soluble in organic solvents such as cyclohexane, which make it suitable for use in organic chemistry. Tetraphenylporphyrin vanadium oxide has been shown to have a high selectivity for the oxidation of toluene and other aromatic compounds, making it an excellent catalyst for this type of reaction. The reaction time and dilution are both dependent on the concentration of the reactants and optimum conditions are determined experimentally.
