Product Information
2-Amino-5-phenylthiophene is an organic compound that can be used in the synthesis of other compounds. It yields a nitro (NO2) group when reacted with sodium nitrate in sulfuric acid, forming 2-nitrobenzothiophene. The compound was first synthesized by Dutch chemist J. H. F. Wouterloot and John R. Alder Wright in 1894, who called it "colchicine". It inhibits tubulin polymerization by binding to the colchicine binding site on the beta tubulin protein's surface, preventing microtubule formation and cell division. Other uses include treatments for some types of cancer, such as colorectal cancer, lung cancer and leukemia, as well as for fungal infections caused by Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus. Colchicine is also used to treat familial Mediterranean fever and pericarditis due to my
