Product Information
- 2,2'-Bipyridine-Dichloropalladium (1:1)
2,2²-Bipyridine)dichloropalladium(II) is a yellow solid that is soluble in organic solvents. It reacts with ketones to form the corresponding 2-aryl-2-oxypalladate esters, which have been found to be useful for the carbonylation of acyl groups. The mechanism of this reaction has been studied using molecular orbital theory and density functional theory calculations. The mechanistic studies have shown that carbonylation occurs via oxidative addition of a Lewis acid like palladium to the carbon atom adjacent to the carbonyl group followed by reductive elimination of HCl. This results in formation of an intermediate allenyl palladium complex that undergoes a dimerization process with release of CO and HCl, leading to the desired product.
