Isopropyl 4-methylphenyl sulfide is an organic compound that can be synthesized by the reaction of an aryl halide with hydrogen peroxide. It has been used as a surrogate for hydrogen peroxide in kinetic experiments. The rate of the reaction is determined by the concentration of the reactants, temperature, and pH. Isopropyl 4-methylphenyl sulfide is also used to generate sulfones and sulfoxides from aryl halides and peracids. The kinetics of this process are controlled by parameters such as solvent and temperature. This organic compound can be converted into an arylation agent through the addition of chloroperoxidase and a nucleophile such as sodium thiosulfate or sulfur dioxide.
