Product Information
- 4,4-Diphenoxybenzophenone
- Benzophenone, 4,4′-diphenoxy-
- Methanone, bis(4-phenoxyphenyl)-
Bis(4-phenoxyphenyl)methanone is a phosphorus chlorinating agent that is used to produce polychlorinated biphenyls. It reacts with organic compounds at the ortho position in an acylation reaction to form ether linkages. The rate of this reaction is increased by using trifluoroacetic acid. Bis(4-phenoxyphenyl)methanone can also be used to synthesize diphenyl ethers, which are nucleophilic and react with phosphorus pentoxide to form triphenyl phosphine. Bis(4-phenoxyphenyl)methanone can be used for the chlorination of zirconium and chloride ions, which have electronic interactions with this molecule.
