Product Information
N-(3-Bromophenyl)-2-methylpropanamide is an anilide that can be nitrated to give the desired nitro compounds. It is a useful intermediate in the synthesis of various nitro compounds, such as 3-nitrophenol and 2,4-dinitrophenol. N-(3-Bromophenyl)-2-methylpropanamide reacts with nitric acid to produce the corresponding nitrates. This reaction is carried out in an ice bath or at -78°C to prevent hydrolysis of the ester group. The resulting nitrates are then heated for about 1 hour at about 100°C to remove water and other impurities, producing a yellow oil that can be purified by distillation or recrystallization.
