Product Information
4-Acetamidophenol is a metabolite of the carcinogenic compound, 4-aminobiphenyl. It is often used as an analytical marker for the presence of 4-aminobiphenyl in urine and faeces. The levels of 4-acetamidophenol may also be elevated in people with bladder cancer who have been exposed to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzo[a]pyrene. The metabolism of 4-aminobiphenyl to form 4-acetamidophenol can be inhibited by ingestion of certain compounds such as anthranilic acid or its derivatives.
