Description:
3-(Naphthalen-1-yl)-3-oxopropanenitrile is a class of compounds that contains the cyanide group. It is a colourless liquid with a boiling point of 192 degrees Celsius. 3-(Naphthalen-1-yl)-3-oxopropanenitrile is prepared by bromination of 1,2-dichloroethane followed by reaction with potassium cyanide and sodium acetate in an alcohol solution. The product precipitates as a white solid.
