Befunolol-d7 is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that belongs to the group of drugs called beta blockers. It is used to treat high blood pressure and angina, as well as other conditions. Befunolol-d7 has been shown to have a lower risk of gastrointestinal side effects than other NSAIDs that are available for clinical use. The drug binds to the receptor site for befunolol, an agonist binding site on the beta adrenergic receptor. This binding inhibits the production of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) in cells, which leads to reduced cell activity and energy metabolism. Befunolol-d7 also reduces choroidal neovascularization by inhibiting vascular endothelial growth factor synthesis and protein kinase C activity in human retinal pigment epithelial cells. In addition, befunolol-d7 inhibits water vapor absorption through sodium citrate membranes in vitro
