p-Decyloxyaniline (pDOA) is a substrate that binds to the active site of an enzyme and changes its shape. It has been shown to be a potential drug for the treatment of systemic disorders, such as cancer. The enzyme specificity of pDOA has been studied by using gold nanoparticles as a model system. Vibrational spectroscopy experiments have also been done to study the binding of pDOA to enzymes. These studies have shown that pDOA can bind to enzymes and block their activity in vitro and in vivo. Kinetic data obtained from these experiments showed that at low concentrations, pDOA was a substrate-competitive inhibitor with respect to methanes and ethane, but at high concentrations it was an uncompetitive inhibitor with respect to methanes. Thermodynamic data showed that the binding of pDOA is irreversible under physiological conditions.
