Zanthobungeanine is a chemical compound that is found in plants of the family Rutaceae, such as Dictyoloma incana, D. crenatum, and D. ferrugineum. It has been shown to have inhibitory effects on protozoan parasites and duodenalis, which are protozoa that infect the duodenum. Zanthobungeanine is also used as an ingredient in traditional medicines for degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. In addition to its anticancer properties, zanthobungeanine has been shown to have anti-leishmanial activity, which may be related to its ability to cause apoptosis in brain cells of mice infected with Leishmania donovani.
