Product Information
2-Methylquinolin-7-amine is an ethyl ester of 2-methylquinoline. It is a postulated label for the red blood cell haemoglobin. Spectroscopic analysis of this compound has shown that it is acidic, and that it has a fluorescent spectrum with a peak at 350 nm. The nature of this compound is also unknown, but it may be a labeling agent for organic chemistry or a fluorescent probe in nature. The theory behind the labeling process is as follows: when the 2-methylquinolin-7-amine binds to the haemoglobin molecule, the quinoline group will form covalent bonds with amino acids in the protein chain and will then be released from the protein chain once hydrolyzed by an enzyme. This process creates a signal that can be detected by fluorescent probes, which are used to detect substances in living cells.
