Description:
2-Chloroethyl Laurate is a chloride that is extracted from the fatty acids in coconut oil. It has been shown to have significant cytotoxic effects on carcinoma cells, but not on normal lung cells. The toxic effects of 2-chloroethyl laurate are due to its ability to inhibit fatty acid synthesis and to induce apoptosis. This compound may also be useful as a dietary supplement or industrial chemical because it inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi, and acts as a pesticide.
