2-(2-Nitrophenyl)propan-1-ol is a chemical compound that has been used as a catalyst in the synthesis of 3-methylindole and chloramphenicol. It is also used as a byproduct in the catalytic hydrogenation of nitrobenzene to nitroethane. 2-(2-Nitrophenyl)propan-1-ol is produced by the condensation reaction of phenol with formaldehyde, or by the catalytic hydrogenation of 2,4-dinitrophenol. This chemical compound has also been used as a catalyst in the production of cyclohexanol from cyclohexanone.
