4-Bromo-N-methyl-N-phenylbenzene-1-sulfonamide is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme 3β hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase. This enzyme catalyzes the conversion of pregnenolone to progesterone, which is required for estrogen synthesis. 4-Bromo-N-methyl-N-phenylbenzene-1-sulfonamide also inhibits osteoclast differentiation and bone resorption in vitro, suggesting that it may be useful for the treatment of osteoporosis.
