5-Bromopyridin-3-yl)(4-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)piperidin-1-yl)methanone (BPPM) is a backup molecule that can be used in the event of an aldehyde oxidase deficiency. BPPM is a prodrug that is metabolized by aldehyde oxidase to 5,6-dihydrobenzofuran, which has medicinal properties. BPPM integrates with the enzyme aldehyde oxidase and acts as an alternative substrate for the enzyme. The BPPM molecule converges on the production of 5,6-dihydrobenzofuran by enzymatic catalysis, which is then converted into 5,6-dihydrobenzofuran by hydrolysis. This process exponentially increases the production of 5,6-dihydrobenzofuran and reliably produces it at high yields.
