Quinoline-2-carboxylic acid hydrochloride is a potent antimicrobial agent that belongs to the group of naphthyridines. It has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth by interfering with the cell membrane, which may be due to its ability to bind with phospholipids in the cell membrane. Quinoline-2-carboxylic acid hydrochloride has been shown to inhibit the replication of viruses and bacteria, as well as inhibiting bacterial growth. This drug also has an interaction with grepafloxacin and other fluoroquinolones. Quinoline-2-carboxylic acid hydrochloride inhibits protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes and preventing peptide bond formation.
