5-Aminopyrazine-2-carboxamide is a synthetic drug that belongs to the group of pyrazinamide derivatives. It is a white crystalline powder with a molecular weight of 215. The compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis by inhibiting protein synthesis. The mechanism of action appears to be inhibition of the synthesis of proteins required for cell division and maintenance, leading to bacterial cell death. 5-Aminopyrazine-2-carboxamide has been shown to have antipyretic properties and acts as an analgesic.
