(2E)-3-(3,4,5-Trimethoxyphenyl)-2-propenoyl chloride is a cardiac and arrhythmia drug that has been shown to reduce infarction size in animal studies. The mechanism of action is not well understood. This drug inhibits the influx of chloride ions into heart muscle cells by blocking the L-type calcium channel and prolonging the action potential duration, thereby reducing arrhythmias. It also decreases the production of acetone from acetoacetate in the liver, which may be due to its ability to inhibit fatty acid oxidation.
