Xylemin dihydrochloride is a natural product isolated from the bark of the Brazilian tree Xylopia aromatica. It is used as an analytical reference material for HPLC, and as a phytochemical in research and development.
Xylemin dihydrochloride is also a secondary metabolite that has been shown to have bioactive properties. This compound has been found to inhibit the growth of human cancer cells in vitro and to decrease tumor size in mice. It may be able to inhibit angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels that are essential for tumor growth.
