Product Information
Palmitoyl sulfatide is a lipid that is present in the outer layer of mammalian cells and is found in the cerebrospinal fluid. This molecule has been shown to have diabetogenic effects in cell culture, with arylsulfatase activity and an acyl chain that is different from other sulfatides. Palmitoyl sulfatide has been shown to suppress the production of IL-10, an immunosuppressive cytokine. It also inhibits the growth of Borrelia burgdorferi and Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which are both bacteria that cause disease in humans. The gene for palmitoyl sulfatide has been cloned and expressed in recombinant human cells.
