Description:
3-Hydroxydocosanoic acid is a fatty acid that is structurally similar to d-glucosamine. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to lipopolysaccharide and blocking the synthesis of cell walls. 3-Hydroxydocosanoic acid also blocks the production of chemotactic factors, which are responsible for recruiting immune cells to sites of infection. 3-Hydroxydocosanoic acid has been chemically synthesized and analyzed using a number of techniques including gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. The chemical structure was confirmed by comparison with its antigen. 3-Hydroxydocosanoic acid binds to serotype 1 and 2 strains of Chlamydia trachomatis, but not serotype 4 strains.
