Description:

Ethyl 2-bromoisonicotinate is a fluorophore that has been used to investigate the effect of photostability on the emission properties. It has been shown that an intramolecular reaction occurs in which the ethyl group is transferred from one molecule of ethyl 2-bromoisonicotinate to another, leading to a phosphorescent compound. This process can be observed using confocal microscopy, and quantum yields have been determined for this reaction. Ethyl 2-bromoisonicotinate is also capable of inducing mitochondrial cell cytotoxicity at high concentrations. The emission spectrum of this molecule falls into the visible range and is highly efficient, with a quantum yield of 0.07%.
