4-Amino-6-chloroquinoline hydrochloride (ACQ) is a chlorinated quinoline derivative that is used as an antiparasitic drug. It has been found to have synergistic interactions with chlorpromazine, which is a known antipsychotic drug. ACQ has shown antimalarial activity against the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum in cell culture and in mice. This activity may be due to its ability to inhibit the growth of parasites by interfering with the synthesis of DNA and RNA in the nucleus of the parasite. The mechanism of action for this drug is not well understood but it may also be due to resistance at the level of protein synthesis, which is mediated by mutations in pfcrt or dhfr genes.
