1-(4-Pyren-1-ylphenyl)ethanone is a dipole molecule that has an electronic transition from the singlet to the triplet state. The energy difference between these two states is about 4.3 kcal/mol. In acetophenone, this transition is observed at about 325 nm. This compound undergoes intramolecular transitions in solvents such as benzene and chloroform, but not in nonpolar solvents like cyclohexane and hexane. The temperature range for these transitions is between -78°C and 30°C.
