Description:

Ms-PEG4 is a triblock copolymer composed of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO). The PEG segment is hydrophilic and the PEO segment is hydrophobic. This polymer has solubilizing properties, which means it can dissolve inorganic salts, organic compounds, and lipophilic substances. Ms-PEG4 has been used for the introduction of hexadecyl groups to proteins. In this process, the protein is reacted with Ms-PEG4 in an organic solvent containing ethylene and diethylene glycol. The resulting product contains a free amino group that can be reacted with a second molecule to form a covalent bond. This polymer also has photooxidation activity. It converts singlet oxygen into triplet oxygen, which reacts with the substrate to produce reactive radicals. Ms-PEG4 has been used as a photosensitizer to generate singlet oxygen
