Tripterifordin is a monoclonal antibody that binds to protease activity and inhibits the action of proteases. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of autoimmune diseases, such as Tripterygium wilfordii, which is used in traditional Chinese medicine preparations. Tripterifordin has also been shown to have significant cytotoxicity against MDA-MB-231 cells, with an IC50 of 0.2 µM. The drug can be used for diagnostic purposes by detecting the presence of protease activity in cell cultures or as a sample preparation agent when extracting proteins from cells. Tripterifordin is also an immunosuppressive agent that suppresses immune responses and inflammation by blocking TNF-α and IL-1β production.
