Uralenol is a prenylflavonoid that inhibits the production of farnesyl diphosphate (FPP) and geranylgeranyl diphosphate (GGPP), which are necessary for the activation of the protein kinase C. It has been shown to inhibit insulin resistance by inhibiting the production of FPP, which is required for the activation of protein kinase C. Uralenol also has anti-inflammatory properties and inhibits the proliferation of liver cells. It also binds to DNA in a hydrogen-bonding manner, inhibiting intramolecular hydrogen bonds.
