Description:
2-Iodo-5-methylbenzenesulfonic acid is a sulfuric acid ester that is used to synthesize thiazoles. It catalyzes the reaction between potassium and iodonium, which yields a benzenesulfonic acid. The resulting benzenesulfonic acid can be converted into thiazoles by treatment with thioamide in high yields. 2-Iodo-5-methylbenzenesulfonic acid has been used to quantitatively produce high yields of thiazoles in reactions involving synlett or thioamides.
