Product Information
Tetrabenazine is a drug used to treat Parkinson's disease and hyperkinetic movement disorders such as Huntington's disease. It is a very potent inhibitor of vmat2, the enzyme that breaks down dopamine in the brain. Tetrabenazine has been shown to be effective in reducing the symptoms of chronic exposure to gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) agonists, such as fatty acid metabolism. This drug also has been shown to have a specific effect on rat striatal tissue during chemical stability studies. Animal models are used for diagnosis and treatment of human diseases, so clinical studies are necessary before tetrabenazine can be approved for use in humans.
